Olive is having a very bad day. She caught her boyfriend cheating on her, she lost her job, and she stumbled into a portal leading to a secret carnival kingdom which she can’t escape. Lexie was the leader of the Alliance. Vivacious and determined, I still couldn’t believe she was only twenty-three—my age in eight years.

As if Sari had read my mind, she perked up. “What do you want for your birthday, Avery? It’s next week.”

“A giant, dusty, dinosaur fart,” Jaxon said, and everyone burst out laughing.

She took a step forward and a snap rang through the tunnel. Her scream pierced the air, threatening to burst my eardrums. Water splashed against us as Sari flipped upside down and was pulled to the ceiling by a rope, her mask falling into the shallows.

In case you're curious about the cover, the model represents Marcus. The background represents the woodland court and the caves at the bottom are where the members of the royal family live. I chose caves because the woodland court protects the forests of the world. I didn't think they would choose to cut down trees to make a castle, so the massive caves worked out nicely. If you zoom in, you can see where the doors and windows are cut out. The inside is very lavish. If you read FRAGILE REIGN, you'll learn all about it.
