Interview with Rebecca Ethington! #Dynamis

Let's Get to know Rebecca!

*What would you be doing right now if you were not an author?
Probably be a stay at home or working mom. I worked in childcare for years and actually have a degree in child development. So I guess in a way its my back up plan. I also performed on stage locally for many, many years and although it’s probably not something I would go back to do, I do miss it.
*5 years ago: what were you doing?
Just being a mom and working at a local child care center. So, not really exciting, I guess.
*Do you have a certain writing ritual?
Not really. I used to but I had to take some time off for personal reasons and I am just now getting back into everything. Right now, I guess you could say my ritual is “making lists and doing them.”
*What has been the toughest criticism given to you as an author?
I don’t usually read reviews so all of my criticism comes from my beta readers. But, if we are going for the worst: I had to re-write all of Soul of Flame because the initial beta readers felt that the emotional connection with the characters was lacking. So, I went through the book paragraph by paragraph and re-wrote it. That was hard to do, and even harder to accept that I basically needed to scrap the work and start over.
*Ever fangirled over another author? Who was it?
I’m not really the fangirl type, because it happens to me too. So I try to stay cool. But, the operative word here is try – because I did sit next to Colleen Hoover at dinner once. She told me I gesture like a crazed chipmunk. Sadly, I think she’s right.
*Is there an author you'd like to meet?
Unfortunately all the authors that I would like to meet have passed on. It’s quite unfortunate, actually. Mary Brown, Frank McCourt, Jane Austen. There are many indie authors I would like to meet, but I may or may not be stalking them on social media, so I kinda feel like I have met them already.
*Biggest writing pet peeve?
Hmmm – probably the misconception that I stay at home and do nothing. Or that I have tons of money because I’m an author. There are days I work from sun up to sun down, and times I don’t leave my house for days at a time in order to stay caught up- or at least attempt to. And… I mostly eat Ramen.
* Do you read other's reviews of your books?
No. And I actually encourage others not to read reviews of the books they have written as well. Reviews are really written for other readers, to help them gauge if a book is for them, not for the author to determine work quality. If you, as an author, feel you need a critical review to help improve your craft – hire a professional or have a trusted friend help you go through it. As a reader – yes, I read reviews of other books for the same reason everyone else does – to gauge weather or not there are Vampires in them ;)

New Orleans has been alive with paranormal activity for the last few months. Creatures of the night are coming in and out of the ancient city, searching the world for relics in a mad attempt to close a tear in the veil between worlds they were told only they could repair.

However, they were misled.

On the other side of that veil, dwelling amongst the damned souls of Hell, are the Noir, a brutal race that feeds off the sins of the world, ripping apart those damned for eternity in their need for life and survival.

Ruled by the master of Hell, their task has been laid out for them, and they have other plans for the sacred relics.

The woman behind the Norse gods in The Elsker Saga: ST Bende! #Dynamis

NEWSLETTERHEADER.jpg
What would you be doing right now if you were not an author?  I think I would make an extraordinary Disney cast member. I adore all things Disney, including Marvel and Lucasfilm, and since Disneyland just opened a brand new attraction called Star Wars Launch Bay/Avengers HQ, I’m in heaven. Downstairs, they have Darth Vader, Chewbacca, and occasionally Boba Fett. (Boba Fett!!) Upstairs they’ve got Spiderman and Thor . . . and I think we all know how I feel about Thor. #LoveHimSoVeryMuch I’m a MASSIVE Marvel/Star Wars fangirl, so I think I could fit in there. Maybe I could bring Darth his coffee. <3
What were you doing five years ago?  Oh, wow. I think I was just beginning to hear Ull’s voice in my head, which would mean I was just starting to draft Elsker!
Do you have a certain writing ritual? I sit down with a cup of mint tea and Caramel McVitie’s  and get to work. Sometimes the words come easily, sometimes it’s like pulling teeth, but when I’m in that chair with treats and a laptop, it’s go-time.
What has been the toughest criticism given to you as an author? All criticism is tough, but I try not to take it too hard. My goal is to make people smile (and maybe get them to share a some Norse mythology love along the way). But I know Norse gods aren’t going to be for everyone. That’s okay.
Ever fangirled over another author? Who was it? I fangirl over my dear friend Kristie Cook every single time I see a message from her. I’m hoping I get to meet her this year!
Is there an author you’d like to meet?  You betcha. ALL of our Dynamis authors, JK Rowling, and if we get to time travel in this scenario, Shakespeare. I can’t even begin to express my love for Shakespeare. #BeatriceAndBenedikForever <3
Biggest writing pet peeve? When the words just won’t come and I’ve eaten all the McVitie’s.
Do you read other’s reviews of your books? I generally avoid reviews, but I do read all of my website comments and e-mails, and I try to respond to them. I received a lot of reader requests for a more detailed breakdown of the realms and characters I use in the books, so I created the Welcome to Asgard page on my website. (It’s a tour of the Norse cosmos, brought to you by the highly opinionated Asgard Travel Authority -- because it is impossible for me to make anything overly serious.) I was over the moon when a reader e-mailed to tell me the page broke down everything she’d learned in her mythology class, in an easy, fun way. I’m really head over heels for Norse mythology, and I love it when readers get into it right along with me!
**The Asgardians is the ninth novella in the Supernatural Chronicles: New Orleans Collection. The complete boxed set to be released in January 2016.**

Inga Andersson just can’t catch a break. She’s supposed to be enjoying a ski week in beautiful Åre, Sweden, with her immortal-assassin-husband. Instead, she and Gunnar are trapped inside a bizarre scavenger hunt, unraveling an incomprehensible riddle at the bequest of a mysterious being. And if Inga and Gunnar don’t decipher the puzzle and deliver a mythological relic to a New Orleans graveyard within three days, they’ll be ejected from the Norse pantheon, stripped of their immortality, and cast as the solitary line of defense against the onslaught of frost giants and Helbeasts ready to bring about Midgard’s fall. What started as a party game has become a lethal challenge with irreparable consequences, not only for Inga, but for the god she loves . . . and the realm she adores.

Let the hunt begin.

Before finding domestic bliss in suburbia, S.T. Bende lived in Manhattan Beach (became overly fond of Peet’s Coffee) and Europe . . . where she became overly fond of McVities cookies. Her love of Scandinavian culture and a very patient Norwegian teacher inspired the books of The Elsker Saga and The Ære Saga. She hopes her characters make you smile and that one day, waffles will be considered a health food.

Supernatural Chronicles: The Cupids

Evelyn Bowden, at nineteen, sacrificed herself for Tate Gallier. Her act inspired the gods to deem her immortal as a cupid. Now, she’s been assigned to apprentice with Andel Lambros, a 200 year-old heavenly archer that looks 24. The purpose of the cupids is easy enough for the newbie to understand, and to resent. But the significance of their work doesn’t have time to sink in when Evelyn is given her first assignment. Cupid elders have received a message and need their newest, least experienced, comrade-in-arms—Evelyn—to retrieve an arrow. That means she must release a mortal from an everlasting love. When she discovers the arrow is fastened to none other than her own love, Tate’s heart, Evelyn battles with letting him go. The century old war for love may be lost if Evelyn doesn’t gear up to save them all. Being a cupid takes more than a bow and some arrows. Evelyn is challenged to deliver her arrow, let go of her first love, and trust an ancient brooding cupid with her existence. Giving up her lost love’s arrow as an offering will be more painful than getting hit by a streetcar, and she knows how that feels since it’s what started the whole predicament. Will Evelyn be able to keep her covenant to her fellow cupids? Will she save them all or lose everything trying?

Who Doesn't Need to be Shot by LOVE?! An Interview with Kallie Ross #Dynamis

Kallie Ross Polka Dot 2An Interview with Kallie Ross

*What would you be doing right now if you were not an author? Since I’m currently bringing home the bacon as a teacher, I’m thinking it would still be my full-time gig. My dream job entails being a super spy, disguised as the lead singer of a rock band on a world tour.
*5 years ago: what were you doing? I was wifing, mommying, teaching, and podcasting about a little franchise called Twilight. It’s weird how it all came to be, but my sister and I had the best time talking about books we loved and meeting some awesome peeps in Hollywood.
*Do you have a certain writing ritual? My writing habits evolve with each book. The most interesting is probably my outlining process. I do this weird circle outline that baffles every writer I show it to. I also have to step away from writing every so often to do something visually creative. Painting is a great way for me to refuel!
*What has been the toughest criticism given to you as an author? I think it’s hard for any author to hear/read criticism. I get that everyone won’t love my stories. I’ve only had one harsh review, and it was tough because the person was tactless. I believe we can all be honest and have some finesse.

*Ever fangirled over another author? Who was it?
Stephenie Meyer Interview
Stephenie Meyer Interview

Well, I’ve been avoiding fangirling Lila Felix, so she’ll think I’m cool. I kept my cool when meeting Stephenie Meyer, Veronica Roth, and Cassandra Clare, so I’m pretty confident in my ability to hold all the fangirling in until I can squee in the privacy of my own home.

*Is there an author you'd like to meet? I would ugly cry if I met J.K. Rowling.
*Biggest writing pet peeve? I have a huge problem with info dumps in flashbacks. Ugh.
* Do you read other's reviews of your books? Not anymore. I used to sneak a peek, but now my husband or friends take care of it!
