#LoveWriteCreate Episode 3: A Banana and Avocado Mashup

In this installment of #LoveWriteCreate on Air, we talk about our epic #NaNo fail, #pitchwars, character bio's, writing exercises, "What's in your notebook?", and the night would not be complete without a banana/avocado mashup silliness (you don't want to miss this ;) hehe.

In each episode, we include a challenge to ourselves, but also to you if you want to join in! This week, our challenge is a writing exercise that we have posted on the LoveWriteCreate blog here at LoveWriteCreate.com (you can also check out previous vids there as well). This exercise is to encourage creativity with your characters. I'm excited to get started on mine!

I know this is kind of long, but it's definitely entertaining. We are just 3 writers in various places in our journeys of writing and publication chatting about it ALL (mostly writing and books, but you get to know us a little bit too--perhaps more than you wanted to know, lol ;)

Falling Into Death

No, this isn't a morbid post on dying literally, but more a personification of Fall--the season--and relating it to life... my life.

Looking outside, (insert I was behind on putting this out so things have progressed a bit since writing this) the leaves have been slowly changing colors from vibrant greens with the full blooms of summer to rich reds, oranges, golds, and warm browns. (Now I realize that you all aren't in 4 seasons so bear with me and try to catch the spirit of what I am trying to express).

I was thinking about Fall lately (how could I not with everything changing the way it is outside right now?!) It is my FAVORITE time of year. The colors, the smells, the emotions created and all tangled up by those things. I love to be snuggled in a sweater with a scarf, my warm fuzzy Uggs, a good book, sipping a cup of hot coffee or cider sitting outside where there's a chill in the air but the sun is still warm on my face.

I started thinking about what it means as a season for all the trees and everything affected by it. Basically, fall is about death. It's about the transition from full, explosive summer life into the cold, dark, barrenness of winter. It is a time of dying. Transition from one state into the next. May sound morbid but it's not. It's necessary. It's beautiful. Death comes to all living things. There is a season for each of us. Yes, physically, but think metaphorically with me.

It comes whether you are ready for it or not. Whether you want it or not. It can be painful, but it doesn't have to be. It's the loss of life... the emptying of the vibrancy that is color. But it must come. Without a little death, and then the saturation of winter, the newness of spring wouldn't come bursting forth with new life. It's part of the cycle: Conception. Incubation. Birth. Growth. Maturing-Blooming. Death. Fertilization. Begin again.

Change.

Change is not easy for most of us. Change is not easy for me. But without it, we would not grow. We would not become--hopefully--the best versions of ourselves. We would stay stagnant. So why am I telling you all this? Well, because I feel like I have been stagnant in some things and am going through changes (again): some in my work and decisions I have made to hopefully keep moving my writing and the business of writing forward. Some personally, as I make choices to become a better ME. Many of these changes are small, as they sometimes are, but they all add up to growth. Old mindsets have to die. Bad habits need to be removed to allow room for better ones.

Sometimes change is offered to you on a lovely silver platter and is your choice. Sometimes it is needed and you have to grab onto it for all you are worth, and sometimes it smacks you like a train coming at full force and knocks you off your feet. Like this poor fellow...

Sometimes we get on the wrong path or veer off from our main focus and change can bring us back to where we want to be.

If only we were given warnings like this sometimes...

Granted not all change that is thrust upon you is good or wanted, but it's those times where our responses to those changes make us or break us (I've experienced all these). But changes can also be incredibly positive too.

You are not given more than you can handle. It may feel like that sometimes, but you are strong. There is grace for change if you look for it.

Change. Growth.

I guess what I want to say--as I continue to learn this myself--change is good. Embrace change, you never know where it may lead you. We are nearing the end of a year. A new one is beginning. Another cycle. Fresh starts. Clean slates. I'm starting to think more about what new changes I want to embrace this next year. Not just "resolutions" but ways of life to become a part of me... to change me. New growth is coming and I want to be ready for it even if that means allowing my leaves to fall into death (not literally of course *phew*)

Thanks for taking your time to read my ramblings.

New Release! The Enlightening by Adrianne James

Mackenzie Duncan found out that pack life wasn’t for her. Now she is running for the second time in the six months   since she was bitten and turned into a Werewolf. But this   time, she isn’t alone. This time, she has Geoff and Liam     with her, two very hot Werewolves vying for her heart.

But her companions aren’t her focus. The only thing she can focus on is getting far from her old pack and their murderous ways. Only, she doesn’t just want to run. She wants to warn every pack she can that their lives are in danger too. No one should be turned against their will like she was and no other pack should have to surrender to the ideas of a centuries old, power hungry woman.

Not only does Mackenzie have to deal with her crazy ex-pack leader sending people out to kill her, she has to keep both men at arm’s length (and that proves to be much more difficult than she thought), but she finds out more about her own life and heritage than she ever thought imaginable.

And suddenly, everything makes sense…

Get the first book in the Mackenzie Duncan Series, The Tempering while it is on sale!

The Mythology department at prestigious Harvard University is tiny—and Mackenzie Duncan has just been selected as one of the lucky few. Her love for myths and legends is strong, but she never thought any of it could be real.

After being attacked by a large wolf while walking home alone, Mackenzie realizes something is not right. She heals quickly, is suddenly super strong, and is experiencing mood swings that can’t possibly be normal. The myths she’s studying aren’t myths at all. Werewolves are real and she’s one of them. Fear of what she is, and who she might hurt sends Mackenzie running from the life she’s worked hard to build–and straight into the arms of a handsome Were named Geoff and into the home of his pack. Living with her new pack takes the edge off her confusion and self-loathing, but the arrival of new pack members changes the dynamic, and tests Geoff and Mackenzie’s growing relationship.

The hardest part of being a werewolf is having no control and no memory of her time as a blood thirsty beast. When a moon cycle passes and she actually remembers bits and pieces of the night, she starts to ask questions, and the more questions she asks, the more she realizes she doesn’t like the answers. Can she set aside her own sense of morals to belong to a pack that is like a family or will she leave everything behind yet again in search of a life she can be proud of?

Growing up, Adrianne couldn’t get her hands on enough books to satisfy her need for the make believe. If she finished a novel and didn’t have a new one ready and waiting for her, she began to create her own tales of magic and wonder. Now, as an adult, books still make up majority of her free time, and now her tales get written down to be shared with the world.

During the day, Adrianne uses her camera to capture life’s stories for clients of all ages and at night, after her two children are tucked in bed; she devotes herself to her written work. Adrianne is living the life she always wanted, surrounded by art and beauty, the written word and a loving family.

As a young adult and new adult author, Adrianne James has plans to bring stories of growing characters, a little romance, and perhaps a little magic and mythology down the line for her readers to enjoy.

Quick Update: What's Happened and What's Coming...

Hello to you all!

I hope that no matter where you are, you are enjoying a fabulous Fall!!

I just wanted to give you a quick update and tell you what's going on...

1. Since October 1st, Veiled Shadows (book 2 in The Age of Alandria series) was released into the wild and into your hands (hopefully ;) I'm very excited that it is out doing well! That was HUGE for me to get book 2 out. I'll write more on that later. Thank you to everyone who got it, those who have read it, and to those have told me how much you are loving it! I can't tell you how much your responses and feedback matter to me! I heart you very much! <3 <3

2. ALSO... As of Nov 11th, Silent Orchids (The Age of Alandria: Book One) is now FREE! That's right, I said FREE!! So if you're interested in YA Urban fantasy/Fantasy, give it a shot. It is free at most digital retailers but I'll give you the Amazon Kindle link HERE. Thank you to all who have already downloaded it!! It has been doing very well on the free charts and even reached #78 on the Amazon Free top 100 chart at one point! See...

3. So what am I working on now? You ask ;) Well, since you asked (you were going to right? lol) I am working on a companion novella for the Alandria series thus far. Before you get worried, those that have asked, book 3 is still slated for late Spring or early Summer 2014. But I think this might tide you over... So this novella (still nameless at the moment) will be featuring Daegan!! I'm really excited about this and have been enjoying spending time with him on a more personal level (heads out of the gutter!) Hopefully, after this novella, you will have a greater understanding of him and what makes him a little more, well, Daegan: you know, guarded, mysterious, protective yet dangerous, and an all around gorgeous Ferrishyn warrior (sigh). No promises but I'm hoping to have this out first part of the new year (slightly vague, I know ;).

There it is in a nutshell!

Have a fabulous weekend!

My tongue played in the hollow of one of my canines as I debated whether or not to seize the opportunity. I wanted to know more about Logan and what his deal was, but not at the expense of this boy who was obviously suffering from his ties. My desire for information won. “Logan isn’t an easy guy to be friends with, is he?”
Sawyer deflated. “He didn’t used to be like this. He was a pretty good guy once.” He started walking back the way he’d come. “Now he seems to be all hate.”
I fell into step beside him. “Did something happen?”
He stopped, his eyes meeting mine. They were a washed-out green, but as I watched a hint of a red glow crept into them. He blinked hard, rubbing the closed lids. “Contacts,” he mumbled.
I got close to him, speaking in a low voice for his ears only. “I don’t think it is contacts. I think it’s fae.”
His eyelids flew up and there was no doubt about it. The irises moved like liquid, glowing in reds and oranges. The only word I could think of to describe it was lava. My hand flew to my throat and I took an involuntary step backwards. All fae had a tell—like my glow or Antonio’s skin ripple. I’d just found his. A voice I didn’t recognize rasped out of my own throat. “What are you?”
“You faced down Logan, who’s a Metus Daemon—the basis of the mythical fear demon—and I freak you out?” He snorted and shook his head.
“I just wasn’t prepared, sorry. Is this entire school fae?”
“Not the entire school.”
I laughed as we started walking again. “So seriously, what happened?”
Sawyer shrugged. “I don’t know. Until this year, sure he was a little cranky. He’s raising his little sister, so who could blame him. But toward the end of the summer he started going on and on about living ‘his glory days’ and it’s like he’s another person. When it’s just me and him at his house he’s normal, but then it’s like someone flips a switch and I’m putting out fires. I suppose who better to put out fires than a Vulcan.”
“Wait, like pointy-eared aliens?”
Sawyer snickered. “It’s only logical.” He flashed me a grin. “Not that kind of Vulcan. More like volcanologist.”
“Oh, like volcanoes. So it was lava in your eyes.”
His shoulders rose and fell in an exaggerated shrug. “I don’t wanna brag. What about you?”
“I’m more like astronomy.” My mouth twisted up into a grin. “I’m a Stardancer.”
“Oh, so you’re like bottled supernova.”

New Release! Last Call by Michele G. Miller

Add to Goodreads TBR

The Blurb:

“You are cordially invited…”

Four words that spark the fear of God into any gently bred, single southern woman.

When Savannah Guthry receives an invitation to her cousin’s wedding back home in Charleston, South Carolina, her first thoughts aren’t of flowers and dresses. Instead, she's reminded of the groom: her first love and the reason she ended up at a college 500 miles away from home.

Determined to show up and dazzle not only her ex but her spoiled cousin too, Savannah allows her friends to set her up on a series of dates looking for Mr. Right.

Wrapped up in her memories of the past and the drama of her new romances, Savannah doesn’t see the dangerous threat to her life coming…

She might not land her Prince Charming before her Last Call.

**This book is a New Adult Romantic Suspense. It is intended for mature (17+) audiences due to sexual situations and mild language

Last Call is full of fun characters with different connections. Check out the little character map I did to help you navigate through all of the hunks and gorgeous gals ;)

~My (Morgan's) review~ 5 Stars!

I received Last Call as an ARC for an honest and unbiased review. First off, I need to tell you I LOVED this book! In fact, I've read it twice since I received it. Yep... TWICE! This book has it all: romance, comedy, emotion, suspense, good southern charm, and of course, lots of hotties. BUT only one really makes my heart swoon... You'll see. There's an accent and dear lord a telephone conversation... nope that's all I'm going to say about that!!

This book reminded me of the movie The Wedding Date with Debra Messing and Dermot Mulroney (which I LOVED) and speed dating (kinda). It is a New Adult/College age book so there is mature content, but Michele keeps you on your toes and on the edge with the romance not giving "it" up too soon but builds a fantastic tension between the main characters. It's light in places with great wit and flirtatious banter, then serious as Savannah, the main character has some issues in her past to sort out. She has fun, supportive best friends as every girl needs. There is a suspense/thriller side to this story that took my nails down to the stub. There were some tears too, but I won't tell you why... READ IT.

Overall, it is fresh and fun! There's Riley... and there's Jax... and there's Gage... and there's Spencer... and there's Leo... and there's GAGE! You guys, there's a song game and it rocks! READ IT!!

I grew up daydreaming about fairytales, and my love for discovering new worlds has never died. I am not one of those writers who always knew I would write. I thought that was what other people did until one day, a few years ago, I took a challenge from a friend and typed my first words. My journey has been wonderful, and I cannot imagine a day where I would ever give up writing. My love for reading is what fueled my imagination in the first place and still does. When I am not writing or reading, I enjoy family time with my husband and two children. My family and I live in a quiet community in Northern Utah, and I am so thankful for the rich life I have been blessed with.
